Life After Bankruptcy
A Chapter 7 liquidation or Chapter 13 reorganization can stay on your credit report for up to 10 years. This does NOT automatically mean that you will be unable to get credit for that entire period. In fact, filing a bankruptcy almost always results in your credit score going higher. As part of the initial process, we obtain your credit report to list all your creditors. That report will show your current (pre bankruptcy) credit score plus an estimate of what your score will be one year after filing your case. In many cases, Clients are receiving credit within a year of filing for bankruptcy. There are many credit options available to individuals who have recently filed for bankruptcy and WindyCityLawyer and The Law Office of Jeffrey S. Harris are committed to helping Clients obtain credit through a personal post bankruptcy consultation.
